The Asian Games are the biggest sports competitions in Asia, held every four years. It is a great event that helps to foster friendship through sports and contributes to the peace in Asia. The 2026 Asian Games will be hosted by Aichi Prefecture and Nagoya City, Japan from 19 September to 4 October 2026. It will be the third time that Japan has hosted this multi-sport event, following Tokyo in 1958 and Hiroshima in 1994.
In order to host the Asian Games, the host city must agree to a contract with the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA). This contract details the rights and responsibilities of the host city in terms of planning and running the event. The host city must also agree to host the Asian Para Games, which is a separate event exclusive to athletes with disabilities, shortly after the conclusion of the Asian Games.
